Rules for 7pts Singleton 93/94 Old School MTG

Old School is a great way to play Magic (what is Old School Magic?) and 7pts Singleton is an amazing way to play Old School with diverse affordable deck-building and balanced gameplay.

This is the new updated point list effective since August 1st, 2025 (more info about the update)

Deck Building Rules:

  • All cards except basic lands are restricted.
  • No sideboard and a deck must have exactly 60 cards.
  • Only the ante cards are banned.
  • To balance the format a deck can have a maximum of 7 points worth of powerful cards. See the above image or the below list in text form of the point cost of cards.

Points List

  • 4 points: Ancestral Recall
  • 3 points: Braingeyser, Control Magic, Disintegrate, Fireball, Library of Alexandria, Mind Twist.
  • 2 points: Armageddon, Black Lotus, Demonic Tutor, Earthquake, Falling Star, Land Tax, Mana Drain, Moat, Mox Emerald, Mox Jet, Mox Pearl, Mox Ruby, Mox Sapphire, Sol Ring, The Abyss, Time Walk.
  • 1 point: Amnesia, Balance, Black Vise, Dark Ritual, Drain Life, Guardian Beast, Hymn to Tourach, Icy Manipulator, Karakas, Mana Vault, Maze of Ith, Old Man of the Sea, Pestilence, Pyrotechnics, Recall, Regrowth, Steal Artifact, Triskelion, Winter Orb.

93/94 Legal sets & Reprints:

  • Alpha, Beta, Arabian Nights, Antiquities, Legends, The Dark, Fallen Empire and the following 3 promo cards dated 1994: Arena, Sewers of Estark and Nalathni Dragon.
  • All reprints with original artworks are allowed including Unlimited, IE/CE, Revised, Renaissance, 4th edition, 5th edition, ... Promos, Gold borders championship, Time Spiral, ...
  • All languages are allowed.
  • Proxies are allowed. We encourage the use of easily recognizable proxies.
  • *** this reprint policy applies to our online tournaments only. Then it’s at the discretion of each Tournament Organizer (some may not allow new frame/foils/proxies...)

MTG Rules:

  • Modern MTG rules apply including the London mulligan (ie: you draw 7 and put X cards underneath your library where X is equal to the number of times you've mulliganed).
  • Mana Burn applies (note: Mana Burn is a loss of life, not damage.)
  • Dice roll to determine play/draw including in Top8.
  • For the Championship: No draws - after 50 minutes if there was a tied match, the tie breaker will be a sudden death Chaos Orb flipping contest.

Card Errata:

Ring of Ma’ruf:

Can go fetch any card that you own from exile or any card from outside the game that is not already included in your deck. This new card can break the 7 points limit.

Falling Star:

Can be flipped onto up to 2 creatures of your choice (you only flip once).

Chaos Orb:

Can be flipped onto up to 1 non-token permanent of your choice (can be destroyed or bounced in response to its activation).
